The Burden of the Lord By Dr. Phil Spears

There are moments in the life of every true servant of God when the weight of Heaven presses upon the soul. It is not the weight of sin or sorrow—but the burden of the Lord. It is that sacred heaviness that comes when God shares His heart with man.

The prophets of old knew this well. Jeremiah said, “His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones.” (Jeremiah 20:9) Amos declared, “The lion hath roared, who will not fear? The Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?” (Amos 3:8) The burden of the Lord is not an option—it is a divine summons.

When God lays His burden upon you, He is trusting you to carry a portion of His heart for the world. It may come as tears in the night, as an unshakable urgency to pray, as compassion for a soul, or as a fire to speak truth when others are silent. It may not always be comfortable—but it is holy.

He still looks for those who will say, “Here am I, Lord, send me.” The burden is not meant to destroy you—it is meant to transform you. It presses you into prayer, molds you into obedience, and births revival wherever you release it.

So if you feel that divine pressure, do not run from it. Yield to it. Pray through it. Speak what He gives you. For the burden of the Lord is not a curse—it is the proof that Heaven has found in you a heart that can feel what God feels.

“The burden of the Lord is the bridge between the heart of God and the needs of man.
